Course recognition (Anerkennung von Prüfungsleistungen)

When your exchange semester has finished your grades have to be recognised and entered into your U:Space exams list. Your contact person at the Department of English and American Studies is Mag. Monika Wittmann. She will briefly check your application and pass it on to our Studienservicestelle. Our SSSt staff will enter exams and grades in U:space and send you an official recognition form (Anerkennungsbescheid), which you can upload in Mobility Online. This procedure may take up to eight weeks. If you need recognitions from more than one SPL, please use separate forms and send each application to the SPL in charge.

The following documents are needed:

1. Application for recognition (Ansuchen um Anerkennung) - scroll down to end of website - download section. You can also use the application form provided directly in Mobility Online.
2. Transcript of records of host university (original or scan/pdf).

Students receiving (Auslands-)Studienbeihilfe can either hand in a separate SB confirmation form (SB/A2) (in addition to the application for recognition) or forward the Anerkennungsbescheid to the Studienbeihilfenbehörde.

  • The International Office's two-month-period for carrying out the recognition does not start until you have received your transcript. The SPL then has two months to carry out the recognition process.
If you have to wait for the transcript, please ask the Erasmus Office for an extension (until end of April, for example).  The latest date to upload your Anerkennungsbescheid is mid-November (following the exchange semester).

  • ONCE A RECOGNITION HAS BEEN CARRIED OUT AND ENTERED INTO YOUR U:SPACE ACCOUNT, IT CANNOT BE CHANGED ANY MORE (principle of legal certainty / Prinzip der Rechtssicherheit). This means that you cannot later ask for a course recognised for Module x in the curriculum to be shifted to Module y.

February registration phase following a semester spent abroad

After a winter semester spent abroad, your transcript of records/your grades will not arrive quickly enough to be entered in time for SoSe module registration, which means that important prerequisites may be missing in U:Space. In this case, do the following:

a) Send in your recognition application as soon as you receive the transcript to prove you have passed the prerequisite modules abroad

and b) contact Mag. Wittmann while the February registration period is on. Select your course choices. M. Wittmann will switch you from "angelegt Voraussetzungsprüfung" to "vorgemerkt" and in this way you will be allocated to courses.

This procedure is not necessary over the summer holidays since course results following an Erasmus stay in the spring semester are usually entered before the beginning of September.
