Validation (Validierung)
What does 'validation' mean?
Professional and non‑professional qualifications can be recognised as part of your study programme if they match the learning outcomes of a specific course/lecture. This is called validation. Recognition of this kind is possible for up to 60 ECTS in total.
You can find the learning outcomes for each course/lecture in the syllabus on u:find and in the respective curriculum.
Step 1: Consultation
Send an email to the SPL where you:
- shortly describe the professional or non‑professional qualification you want validated
- attach all relevant documentation (e.g. certificates)
- either already suggest a course to have this qualification be validated towards, or just ask whether your qualification can be validated at all. The SPL will check which course it best matches anyway.
You will then be informed whether a validation is possible in your case. In case it is possible, follow the instructions in Step 2: Application next.
Step 2: Application
After the SPL confirmed validation is possible:
- Fill out the Validation Form (PDF) according to the SPL's instructions. You can also use the Example Sheet (PDF) for guidance.
- Send the filled-out form to the SPL.
You will then receive a document signed by the SPL, confirming that validation is possible as per your application, as well as instructions on how to fill out the recognition form. What you should do with the SPL confirmation and the recognition form will be explained in Step 3: Recognition.
Submit your application to the SPL
Step 3: Recognition
- Fill out the Recognition Application Form for your studies according to the SPL's instructions.
- Send an email to the recognitions team with the following attachments:
- Documentation of your professional or non-professional qualification
- SPL Confirmation of Validation
- Filled-out Recognition Form
You will receive a Notice of Recognition (Anerkennungsbescheid) within 8 weeks.
