BEd / MEd (before 2026)
Starting with the winter term 2026/2027, the previous versions of the teacher education programmes (BEd and MEd) can no longer be registered. Students still have time completing their studies:
- Bachelor: 31. March 2031
- Master: 31. March 2029
M10 Electives
M10 Electives (Wahlbereich) is compulsory. Complete 10 ECTS across your two main teaching subjects—optionally all in one subject—via approved lectures or seminars in English Studies or Pedagogy/Didactics. Each semester, SPL 12 publishes on u:space the courses that count for UF Englisch.
Students with a third subject (Erweiterungsstudium) complete 5 ECTS in that subject’s Wahlbereich. If your second subject is external (e.g., UF Musikerziehung, UF Bildnerische Erziehung), at least 5 ECTS must be taken in the UF Englisch Wahlbereich.

Erweiterungsstudium für PH-AbsolventInnen
Extension programme for students who have completed a three‑year Bachelor’s degree in Secondary Education at an Austrian University College of Teacher Education (PH). Completion of this programme previously enabled admission to the Master’s in Teacher Education at the University of Vienna; this is no longer required.
Diplom 344
The diploma programme for teacher education (Diplom Lehramt) has been discontinued and is therefore not available to new students.
Most important dates and facts
- The diploma programme is no longer in effect since 30. April 2021
- replaced by: Bachelor/Master programmes (BEd/MEd)
- Students who did not complete their studies or switched to the new system by 31. May 2021, must re-apply for admission
After admission is granted (Neuzulassung) previously completed courses need to be recognised.
